Frequently Asked Questions

Of course you have questions, here are just a few.

You have found this website so the right time is probably now. No doubt you already have some idea of the changes you want to make, maybe a friend or relative has suggested hypnotherapy to you. Either way a simple, friendly and free consultation will help you decide so between us we can make some awesome changes.

This is a very common question and the simple answer is, absolutely not. Hypnosis is a normal and natural state of mind, everyone experiences some form of hypnosis many times a day without even realising it. It’s like daydreaming with a purpose and has no harmful effects. Once out of hypnosis you will feel rested, relaxed and ready to enjoy your new life.

This rather depends on what needs to be done during the session and how well your mind co-operates. Typically a hypnosis session would last between 45mins – 1 hour, maybe even more at times. As already stated, it depends upon the changes you want to make and how willing you are to make them. As for how many sessions, again this depends on how well you accept the changes but one session can often lead to positive and lasting effects in many cases. Any ongoing treatment would be assessed and agreed between us, there is absolutely no obligation at all.

The short answer is; like the best dream you’ve ever had. The longer answer is, Hypnosis occurs when you are intently focusing and concentrating your attention on a task, activity or thoughts – being immersed in a movie or video game is a prime example. Your attention is so focused while in this state that anything going on around you is temporarily blocked out or ignored. This naturally occurring state of focus leads you into a relaxed awareness. The resulting heightened state of awareness is often referred to as trance. You will be physically relaxed but mentally alert. In this state, your unconscious mind is most receptive to hypnotic suggestion but rest assured, you are in full control throughout. Contrary to popular belief you could not compromise your existing morals (and you would never be asked to!)

A great question. More and more ailments and issues are added to the list of things that benefit from hypnotherapy. Here is a short, but not exhaustive list:

Phobias, Addictions, Relationship/Family issues, Work related stress, Sleep Disorders, Anxiety,Depression, Post-Traumatic Stress, Grief and Loss of a Loved One, Cessation of Smoking, Weight Loss, Habits, Pain Relief, Hypnobirthing. If your issue is not listed please contact me.

Everyone can be hypnotised because we are all suggestible. As long as you wish to enter hypnosis, you will. Hypnosis is based on your ability to accept suggestions, the very suggestions you make to yourself everyday, for example; ‘I’ll leave now so I get to my meeting on time’ or ‘I am not smart enough to start my own business so there’s no point in even trying’ or ‘I’m not good enough to sing at karaoke, so I’ll just watch.’ The suggestions we make to ourselves create beliefs that they are true. Hypnosis allows new, positive suggestions to be placed in our mind instead of negative or destructive ones.

What is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis, often used in hypnotherapy and coaching, is a powerful tool for personal transformation. Hypnotherapy utilises hypnosis to address a wide range of issues and unwanted behaviours, offering solutions for:

  • Phobias
  • Addiction
  • Relationship/Family/Work Conflicts
  • Sleep Disorders
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Grief and Loss
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Weight Loss
  • Habits
  • Improved Sports Performance

The Power of Hypnosis and the Subconscious Mind

Hypnosis has been extensively studied, evolving into a remarkable set of techniques for positive change. Hypnotherapy and coaching leverage these techniques to unlock your untapped potential.

Your subconscious (or unconscious) mind is a repository of all your learned experiences and automatic behaviours. Like a personal filing cabinet, it stores memories that allow you to perform tasks without conscious effort, such as riding a bike or swimming. This is why you might drive for several minutes without a clear recollection of the journey. These automatic skills reside in your subconscious, accessible even when you’re daydreaming or in a light trance-like state during everyday activities.

How Hypnotherapy Works

During a hypnotherapy session, hypnosis allows your conscious mind to relax, granting access to your subconscious. This enables a hypnotherapist to work with you, facilitating positive, lasting changes in areas of your life that have been problematic.

Hypnosis increases suggestibility, making your mind more receptive to ideas of behavioral change. By bypassing the critical faculty (the part of your mind that filters out unlikely suggestions), hypnotherapy allows positive suggestions to be accepted by the subconscious mind. This is why many find hypnotherapy life-changing; ingrained habits can be effectively addressed and eliminated.

Hypnosis for Stress and Anxiety

While hypnosis and hypnotherapy can be applied to various concerns, including weight loss, smoking cessation, and pain management, stress and anxiety are commonly addressed.

Our brains, especially the unconscious mind, have built-in “fight, flight, or freeze” responses for self-preservation. While essential for survival in ancient times, these responses can be over-triggered in modern life, leading to chronic stress and anxiety. Hypnosis, through deep relaxation, can help balance these responses, promoting calmness and well-being. Hypnotherapy and coaching can empower you to manage stress and anxiety effectively.

Local or Online

I am more than happy to treat clients in-person or online using a video messaging platform such as Zoom. I enjoy being face to face with my clients but with the increased reliability of video systems online hypnosis has become incredibly popular. This means that no matter where you are located, even internationally, you can be treated just as effectively as if we were in the same room. So if you are some distance away, travelling is a challenge or you would just prefer to be treated in  the comfort of familiar surroundings then hypnosis over zoom or some other online platform could be the perfect solution for you. You just need a stable internet connection and some time. Get in touch to find out more.

I am based in Addiscombe, Croydon. I cover South, South West London, parts of Bromley and Surrey. Places local to me are:

Shirley – Norwood – Purley – Wallington – Thornton Heath – Coulsdon – Sanderstead – Mitcham – Sutton – Epsom – Kenley – Elmers End
